Plan Your Trip To Milos

Pack your bags - you’re going to Greece!

Getting There

Getting to Milos is super easy. Assuming you are flying in to Athens, you can either go by plane or by ferry (boat) to the island. If going by plane, you most likely will take Aegean Air and flight time is 45 min.

If you opt for a ferry, it is generally a few euros more than flying (not always) and does take longer (2+ hours travel time depending on the liner you choose), but the benefit is that you get the unique experience of traveling by sea: gorgeous views of the Aegean and easy boarding/check-in process just a few minutes before departure. We love traveling by ferry if time allows! When booking, look for these ferry operators: SeaJets (our favorite and preferred liner), Golden Star Ferries, Blue Star Ferries, Minoan Lines, and more. The port you will be traveling from is called Athens Piraeus and arriving to Milos Adamantas.

Once at the port of Milos (also called Adamas, it is the same), you can find many car, scooter, and ATV rentals. We suggest booking this in advance, as having your own transportation to get around the island is crucial.

Where to Stay

Hotels, Airbnb, and Guesthouses

Milos is a small island and the summer season begins in June. That being said, we highly recommend securing your hotel, airbnb, or guesthouse as soon as possible before the good ones get booked up.

If you’re looking for convenience, we recommend choosing your stay in the port, Adamantas (also called Adamas - they are the same) or in Plaka, the main village in Milos where you will find the typical white houses you imagine when you think of the Greek islands. Both Adamantas and Plaka have plenty of restaurants, bars, convenience stores, pharmacies, groceries, and more just footsteps away. Both these villages are where the nightlife is at in Milos!

There are many hotels in Adamantas (the port), but we especially recommend looking into the Arco Solium Milos Hotel. Other options include: Dome White Coast, White Pebble Suites, and Milos Cove.

If you’re looking for something more off the beaten path, we recommend doing some research into the following areas and decide what works best for you. Everywhere in Milos is beautiful and special in its own way… the problem will be choosing!

Klima

For a local vibe with typical boat houses in a picturesque fisherman’s village. World Heritage site where the famous statue of Aphrodite was found. We stayed here when we got engaged!

Mandrakia

A Pictureque village located on the Northern coast of Milos, known for its scenic beauty, rocky beaches and excellent snorkling opportunities. Laid back with stunning views of the Aegean sea.

Firopotamos

A stunning secluded bay with crystal clear waters, typical fisherman houses, and a church. As far as we know there is no restaurant here (only a beach bar), so make sure to stop to get groceries and research before!

Pollonia:

Romantic seaside village with great beaches and a more peaceful vibe. Great for couples!

What to Do

Must-do activities on the island of Milos

Up until the last few years, the luminous Cycladic island of Milos was a secret destination surreptitiously shared among Greek couples. With more than 70 beaches, considered among the best in the Aegean, the isle where the Louvre’s prized Venus de Milo was found has a fascinating history and spellbinding volcanic landscapes like lunar-like Sarakiniko.

With fresh new places to stay, exciting restaurants, and classic waterfront bars, Milos is evolving into one of the Mediterranean’s most sought-after vacay spots. Get ready!!

EAT & DRINK

Astakas - We had our engagement day dinner here. Located in Klima with THE BEST sunset views right on the water.

Nostos - Slightly higher-end seafood experience. Order the lobster ravioli!

Medusa - Located in Mandrakia right by the water with traditional options and seafood. We love the grilled shrimp, grilled local cheese with honey, and aperol spritz!

Okto - Great for breakfast or sunset dinner & mediterranean cuisine.

O! Hamos! - Traditional farm to table by the water. Only meat is served here! Best oven cooked lamb ever.

Mikros Apopolus - Great for seafood lovers.

Akrotiri Seafood Obsession - Amazing seafood, good wine + cocktails.

Vlahos - Traditional & great Souvlaki.

Avli Milos - They give you wine while you wait! Traditional greek cuisine.

Gyros of Milos - The best gyros! Located at the port, quick and inexpensive option that you shouldn’t miss. Grab some to go to take to the beach!

BEACHES & MORE

Firiplaka - Our favorite beach! Make sure to bring an umbrella, snacks, and drinks/water! No bars or restaurants here, just raw gorgeous beach!

Sarakiniko - Milos’s famous “moon beach.” Rumored to be a hiding place for pirates long ago, this is probably the most unique beach on the entire island. Park at the bottom of the hill and take your time walking the wide trail. People come here early to see the sunrise and for cliff jumping!

Klefitko - Known as the Pirates Bay, this pinterest-worthy beach is only accessible by boat. DO NOT MISS THIS! You need to book a boat tour in advance that takes you to all the spots that are only accessible by boat. If you didn’t go to Kleftiko, did you even go to Milos? We recommend booking around February/March 2025 with Milos Experiences or Milos Oneiro for your boat day. Some companies inlcude breakfast, lunch, snorkling, secluded beaches, beer and wine, and more (make sure to plan a whole day for this, you won’t regret it), but there are MANY options for charters. Google is your friend! For the dare devils, apparently there is a hour-long hike to get there as well. Wear good shoes and good luck!

Firopotamos - This beach gets an A+ for plenty of places to sun bathe. Small facility and food truck of sorts where you can purchase drinks (but we like to go prepared with our own anyway just in case, sometimes things aren’t open when they should be).

Tsigrado - One of the prettiest Milos beaches. Accessible by car, make sure to come in shape and ready to descend and ascend by ladder only. It is a steep incline with a rope to hold on to. This is for the adventurer - come early or be prepared to share space.
